Drum Circles in Maryland

Whether you're an HR director looking to energize your team, a community organizer bringing neighbors together, or someone seeking the therapeutic benefits of rhythm — there is a drum circle in Maryland for you.

Jason Armstrong Baker is a board-certified music therapist (LPMT, MT-BC) and rhythm expert based in Baltimore, MD, with over 30 years of percussive artistry and more than 5,000 group drumming sessions facilitated. He brings clinically grounded, deeply human drum circle experiences to organizations, communities, and individuals across Maryland and beyond.

No musical experience needed. Just show up.

Three ways to drum in Maryland

For Corporate Teams & Organizations

Drum circle team building is one of the most effective — and most memorable — ways to develop the skills that make teams work: listening, communication, trust, and the ability to move together under pressure.

Jason's rhythm-based workshops use group percussion to break down silos, rebuild connection, and give teams a shared experience they'll reference long after the session ends. Available for corporate events, conferences, professional development days, and company retreats across Maryland, DC, and Virginia.

No musical experience required. Just a team ready to show up differently.

For Communities & the Public

Every second Sunday at 4:30pm, Jason hosts a free, donation-based community drum circle in Hampden, Baltimore — open to everyone, no experience needed, no instruments required.

This is rhythm as it was meant to be: communal, accessible, and alive. Neighbors become strangers become one rhythm. First-timers are always welcome, and many become regulars.

For Healthcare, Wellness & Therapeutic Settings

Rhythm is not just music — it is medicine. Research shows that group drumming reduces cortisol, improves mood, strengthens immune function, and produces measurable neurological benefits for people living with movement disorders like Parkinson's disease.

Jason's Rx for Rhythm program — a free weekly therapeutic drum circle for people living with Parkinson's disease, sponsored by Johns Hopkins Center for Music & Medicine — is offered in-person in Baltimore and virtually nationwide every week. He also works with healthcare organizations, wellness programs, and therapeutic communities across Maryland who want to bring rhythm-based experiences to the people they serve.

Why choose a board-certified music therapist?

Not all drum circle facilitators are the same. Jason holds the highest clinical credentials in the field, Licensed Professional Music Therapist (LPMT) and a Board Certified Music Therapist (MT-BC), meaning his work is grounded in evidence, held to a professional standard, and designed to produce real outcomes for the people in the room.

His work has been recognized by Johns Hopkins Center for Music & Medicine, the Veterans Affairs Administration, Towson University, and the Baltimore Station. He has co-authored a peer-reviewed study on group drumming and Parkinson's disease published in the Nordic Journal of Music Therapy.

This is not a novelty activity. This is rhythm as a serious, joyful, evidence-based practice, and it happens to be one of the most engaging experiences a group can share together.

Serving Maryland statewide

Jason is based in Baltimore and available for drum circle engagements across Maryland — including the Baltimore metro, Annapolis, Columbia, the DC suburbs, and beyond. Virtual drum circle sessions are available to clients anywhere in Maryland and nationwide.

For recurring programs, one-time events, or ongoing partnerships, Jason works with organizations to design the right rhythm-based experience for their context and goals.
